New Urban Cruiser EV SUV Design

Urban Cruiser’s design draws heavily from the 2022 Urban SUV Concept and rides on a new EV platform developed in collaboration with Suzuki. Similar to the Suzuki E Vitara announced recently, the Urban Cruiser offers two battery options: a 49 kWh battery paired with a front-wheel-drive (FWD) system and a 61 kWh battery with all-wheel-drive (AWD). The AWD variant delivers up to 135 kW of power and 300 Nm of torque, enhancing stability on uneven surfaces. With a likely range close to the E Vitara’s 248 miles, the Urban Cruiser positions itself as a practical, city-friendly EV.

Inside, the Urban Cruiser boasts a dual-display setup featuring a 10.25-inch digital cluster alongside a 10.1-inch infotainment system equipped with Apple CarPlay. Features like downhill assist, trail modes, and a heat pump add versatility, while the FWD variant includes a snow mode. Additionally, all models allow users to manually precondition the battery for optimal DC fast charging performance.

Toyota’s approach to electrification has been measured, focusing on hybrids and hydrogen-powered vehicles. However, with plans to introduce 15 EVs by 2026, including six on a next-generation platform, the company is rapidly gaining momentum. Toyota’s recent $1 billion investment in Kentucky further signals its ambitions, with a three-row electric SUV for the US market already in the pipeline.
