According to the latest Business Barometer from Lloyds Bank Commercial Banking, the confidence index increased by three points to 42%, marking a strong start to the year for local businesses.
Resilience Amid Market Fluctuations
While there was a slight dip in confidence regarding individual business prospects—down three points to 54%—South West businesses remain optimistic about the broader economic outlook. Confidence in the economy rose by 10 points to 30%, which contributed to the overall increase in business confidence across the region.
Focus on Growth and Innovation
Looking ahead, South West businesses are prioritizing investments in growth and innovation to maintain momentum over the next six months.
- Workforce Development: Nearly half (47%) of businesses plan to invest in training and professional development initiatives to enhance their teams.
- Diversification: A significant 46% of businesses are focused on diversifying their products and services, including the introduction of new offerings to meet evolving customer needs.
- Embracing Technology: About 37% of businesses are looking to integrate emerging technologies like automation and artificial intelligence to enhance efficiency and drive innovation.
